feb 20 - feb 26: sun, swings, slides, and blossoms

the weather continues to be so beautiful and warm here (you're weirding me out, february! keep it up!), so we continue our daily walks and daily park visits. it may be the boys or it may be me (or both), but we HAVE to get out every day or we go a little stir-crazy bonkers. thankfully, these perfect sunny days keep on coming and keep us out and about. plus, there's nothing like running around outside to get these chicos to take a 3 hour nap. may the gods ever smile on us and grant us our daily naps.

simon wants more and more to play with asher when we're out. if asher is over doing something different he tells me, "mama, I want asher to play with me. I want asher play on slide with me." I'll tell him to go ask asher and he'll often say, "c'mon, let's play, asher!" It's sweet and fun to watch them play and have fun together. ^^

^^ beautiful hand-drawn portraits of the boys done by my friend, Anna!

^^ nothing seems more spring to me than a flowering magnolia! hopefully our neighbor didn't think it too strange that I was inconspicuously taking pictures of their tree... I would have climbed it and gotten my face right in those flowers had it not been for prudence sake. and, social norms sake.

^^ phil put together an incredible lasagna earlier this week that we have been eating every day since. in the words of jim gaffigan, "CARBALICIOUS!"

^^ oh, to sunbathe in february! go ahead and play on, little boys. I'll just be laying out right here on this park bench, thank you.

^^ I'm not sure how I came across this snack, but hummus and celery has been my nap time go-to the past week.

^^baby asher was getting all snuggly on the swings. I do love whatever snuggles this wiggly boy will give me. he had a bit of a hard week with a stomach bug (read: lots of diapers) and a doctor's visit to confirm that is was a stomach bug. I would prefer he be healthy than sick and snuggly, but if he's going to be sick then I'm grateful for the cuddly side-effects.

^^ we picked up Phil from school and hit another park in the afternoon. simon is crazy about slides, and looks like his hair is too!

I worked on two larger weavings this week. making them always seems to be an interesting process. I often will have a rough idea of what colors I'd like to use/ colors that people have requested I use and a rough idea of some elements of the weaving, but so much of the end result is what I decide to do/add in at the moment. nearly every time, I'll be halfway done with a weaving and convinced its going to look gnarly. somehow though, once it is hanging up and trimmed up, it turns out okay.

feb 13 - feb 19: engagiversary, valentine's, trains, and baby legs

our fifth engagement anniversary
we had a groupon to mellow mushroom in chapel hill and it was one of our better eating out decisions. the PIZZA!! my sad phone camera does those delicious rounds of dough and sauce and toppings very little justice. it was incredible, and now we have another tried and true place to take visitors. anyone? anyone?

valentine's day
after dropping off simon and phil at school, asher and I made some valentines for phil. we drove to campus and surprised him in his office with candy and valentines. it was fun to visit him.

after the boys had their dinner and went down to bed, phil and I made crunchwraps, phil made oreo crusted lava cakes (bless him  x 10000000!), and we watched a good movie. it was nice to spend the evening together in jammies and with good food.
^^ this ended up being the least blurry picture???

park days
we spent nearly every afternoon this week at the park with friends. getting out keeps these little boys (and me!) much happier before/after nap time, and since the weather has been awesome, out we went! in the mornings now, simon says, "let's go to the park!" and I love that there are so many parks and paths and places to explore here.

^^happy faces and watching cars at the park before getting phil. simon wanted to watch cars and trucks pass on the road, so I told him to plop himself in the grass and keep a look-out. little dude stayed there for nearly 30 minutes shouting out the vehicles he was most excited to see (and especially shouted about the ones that were "sooo loud!!")

we drove out to raleigh to go to pullen park one morning this week. it is at such a pretty spot off of Western Blvd, and they have a train and a carousel and places to walk and some sweet playgrounds. yes, I did just wrote "sweet playgrounds." this is life with two buddies and I LOVE IT! and, boy, the slides at Pullen Park are, like, way awesome. and the sandboxes?? SO SLAMMING! seriously though, it's a fun spot for kids and also for moms to gather and chat about their latest misadventures with applesauce pouches. on that note, do not trust a squeeze-happy kid with one of those in the backseat. just saying.
^^on the train with two little boys who, contrary to these non-amused faces, loved going around in the, as asher called it, "trwain choo choo!"

^^ both boys decided that they like swings. this was first time they both stayed in one for more than 15 seconds.

some mini weavings from this week

playing on the deck and sporting some sweet thighs (asher) and dance moves (simon).

"by the way, did you know that I'm a fabulous cook, mom? lemme show you what I've got cooking in here." ^^

^^ simon gave the scripture in sharing time today.

nc zoo

we woke up early this morning and went to the zoo! the gps took us down a pretty wonky path to get there (google maps got us home in a more linear fashion), but it was enjoyable to drive through the north carolina countryside. it made us wish we could own a few acres of trees and green.

the nc zoo was pretty awesome and comprehensive when it came to its animals. ever heard of an ocelot? even know how to pronounce it? well, I hadn't and didn't, but then my world was changed. by an ocelot. and then there were the bison! and the elephants! and the giraffes! it was neat to be so close to the animals, and it wasn't very busy so we could get great views. one view in particular was the rear-side of a male gorilla right up against the glass. I'm hoping the boys won't remember that sight.

oh, and let's talk about the best-weathered february I've ever experienced! today the temperature reached into the low 70's. we wore shorts and short-sleeves and relished in the warmth. we put on sunscreen. it felt like san diego, and san diego temps feels so nice. especially in february.

^^ I don't even know, asher. looks like he is running/going in for a firm handshake.

^^ I told simon to pick the buffalo's nose, and he gave it a kiss.
