happy halloween!

happy halloween from this gardener, his flower patch and their baby caterpillar to you!

^^  phlaurel being floral.
^^ simon stayed in his overstuffed caterpillar outfit approximately 10 minutes
until the fluffiness and warmth became too much to handle. here he is navigating
how to bring the pizza crust over his large chest and into his mouth.
^^ the hippie parents. monroe's comment before I snapped
this was, "should I try to look high?"
^^ a sweet minnie mouse!

^^ after shedding the caterpillar ensemble, simon donned grandpa's rastafarian hat.
he liked this get-up better. you can tell by his "ahhhh yeah" face here.

^^ the dedicated members of the family who cooked and glazed the goodness you see below.
^^ the best halloween tradition chez the whites. over 200 donuts and
fritters were made and devoured, making for one deliciously low-cal holiday.
^^ no make-up needed to make this boy ghoulish white. you can imagine how slightly scary
it is to see him occasionally standing up at his crib in the middle of the night staring over at us.

the haunted half

on saturday, provo hosted the "haunted half marathon," and since it was a halloween-themed race, we got all dressed up in some running friendly outfits! the race was beautiful, enjoyable, and I'm glad that I had good friends to run with (and chase down - my zebra prey!)

alpine loop & bruges

^^ it was a pajamas-all-day sort of day for simonpants. just wish I
could pull that off...

two mondays ago for family night, we drove through the canyon to see the changes that the season has brought to our mountainsides. talk about giga-gorgeous and a real feast of colors for our eyes! after the drive, we enjoyed a few belgian favorites (the mitraillette and the the carbonnade) at bruges waffle & frites on center street. the last time I ate carbonnade was when we were in france last year with friends and they took us to a place on the belgium border. the flemish stew, or carbonnade, was ordered at the enthusiastic recommendation of our thrilled-to-meet-some-americans waitress; she detected an accent through my french ("ah, madame, est-ce que je d├ętecte un peu d'un accent?") and quickly suggested that we give the stew a try. so glad we did, and so glad we could have it again.

10 months

the munchkin boy is 10 months old (as of yesterday), and I just love this age on him.

he is happy and calm (unless he's hungry - but who doesn't get a little hangry? like, don't mess with me when I haven't eaten my matinal oatmeal yet).

he's always on the verge of a laugh, and he babbles and entertains himself with his toys, his crawling adventures, or our full-length mirror. sometimes in the morning, he'll crawl into the closet where I sit and do my makeup in front of the mirror and just stare; the finer points of foundation application really seem to fascinate him.

he finally has two bottom teeth (sharp, too! just inquire with the crazy lady--me--who tried to pry out a fat wad of paper he crammed in there the other day.), more translucent hair, pulls himself up all over the place (and enjoys climbing on people who sit near him), pulls books off shelves, crumples and rips any paper within grasp (e.g. papers I grade, an Ensign magazine I left on a low shelf...), and feeds himself solids. gerber lil' crunchies are a current fave. and, with a name like that, duh, right? I mean, I'm just wondering when they'll make the big crunchies for me...

mood weather

the last weekend in september came with rain and clouds and yellows and waning greens and so much mood. we woke to the overcast morning and felt inspired to go up south fork and breakfast amidst autumn. grateful we live in this bea-utah-ful place.
