food truck roundup

we went to the food truck roundup last night here in provo for meg's birthday. we've been wanting to try out the food there for a while, so thanks to meg for being born and wanting to celebrate like this. we got there early and had a hard time choosing from all the trucks, but we felt certain that we made some pretty delicious choices.

^^ pico nortes tacos and grilled cheese from mouse trap.
^^ a margherita pizza from fiore's
^^ cinnabomb donuts from art city donuts. oh.my.good.

five months

our nightly routine is my favorite. simon is such a habit lover. his night comes to a close with a shower with phil and then some mirror time in his towel with me. we make silly faces and talk. these moments, I think, are so important. life, in time, will bring its complications and difficulties, but for now simon is our little boy. his life is free of problems and we are his world and his protectors. one day at a time we are creating this bond with each other, a bond that we will need so dearly in the future. as I put him down in his crib at night, fleece-warmed and belly full, I give him kisses on his cheek and neck and he does this wide open-mouthed smile, closes his drunk baby eyes and fades into sleep. it melts me. this whole mama thing? yeah, love it.

oh, hey!

we're alive.

I took that crazy MA exam two weeks ago and
spent the week leading up to it in the library.
shout-out to the fifth floor regulars. we're all friends now.
that is, if you consider sitting around the same
people for four days straight without ever speaking to
them as "friendship." one guy and I shared
a meaningful conversation the third day:

"hey," he says, "you've been here every day this week. what are you in for."
"master's exam. you?"
"mcat."
*exchange looks of understanding.*

to the great relief (and surprise) of all concerned,
my committee shook my hand, said "félicitations," and
said that I passed.
and then I almost passed out.
not literally. but, like, my mind collapsed and
all I wanted was deluxe chili cheese fries from del taco.
that happens to normal people, right?
they told me to celebrate. that's how I did it.
so now I have a, you know, thesis to write about this guy
named Balzac, but having this one final goal
to reach is relieving.

so, in commemoration of this great sunny tuesday
and of me finally reemerging/recovering from exams, here is
the most random photo conglomeration
of our life as of recent.

^^ bright toes.
^^ provo bakery delights.
^^ thighs for days.
^^post-MA exam food celebration. you'd think french
would sophisticate my tastes. wrong.
^^ mango mango mango.
^^ phil had to do a project for a GE class (that he put off until now).
it required tapping into our 7 year old selves.
this is "bread of life" in wheat berries and split peas.
^^ so gone.
^^ starting solids and
^^ getting so professional at it.
^^ strawberry lemonade and
^^ my tall glass of water.
^^ caption??
^^ simon's new favorite. it's has this super fancy kangaroo motif with
a kangaroo face (with buck teeth??), a joey in the pocket and a long brown tail.
it was the only type at the store.
we were desperate.

dr.

I'm so proud of my mama. this past weekend, she graduated with her
doctoral degree in nurse practice. she went back to school about
eight years ago when I was still in high school and my two
youngest siblings in middle and elementary school. throughout
the entire process, she still worked as a nurse (and moved into
other positions at the hospital), had children at home, was active in
our church, taught an early morning class for a few years, and so on.

she finished her bachelor's.
she finished a master's.
she received two certificates in her field.
she then completed a doctorate.

talk about crazy dedication and brilliance and hard work!
after I finished this master's program, I think I am going to be
done with school for a long while, but this mama of mine makes me
believe that I can go back to school one day and be successful.

on saturday afternoon...

we ate our way through a mountain of
shave ice, sundaes and footlong corndogs.
we are maybe going to die young, but we
had healthy smoothies for breakfast so
it all evens out, right???

wedding weekend in the bay area

we attended phil's brother's wedding this past weekend in northern california. his bride is one of the sweetest girls and already a dear friend (and totally gorgeous, right?), and I am thrilled for their union. it was wonderful to be with phil's family and our sweet nieces and nephews (including simon's "cousin-girlfriend," imogen, who was born the day after simon). and, the weather? talk about perfect bay area sunshine, and the place we stayed was crazy beautiful too. like, I remember turning to phil and saying, "oh, guess what? we're moving." even days after, it's like a song stuck in my head; I keep thinking about it all the time - the scenery, the green, the perfect spring temperatures...

I'll tuck my hopes to live there away for another day
and get on the move with some photos from the wedding day:
^^ cousin love
^^ a bouquet of baby's breath

^^ I think this is the last time si's chubby legs are going to fit in these pants.
^^ edible tie? must be. and, can you tell that si doesn't tan often?
^^ some classy girls
^^only an aunt could give a smooch like that.
^^ overloading grandpa

from sunday afternoon in sf:
